Located in east Tennessee in the southern Appalachians, Cades Cove sheltered a thriving community for over 100 years. Today, it remains a popular destination in the most visited national park in our nation, for people interested in history, native cultures and wildlife.
Here, with personal family memories handed down through generations, and official histories of Cades Cove, we discover the sites of schools and stores, creeks and mills, and the home places such as Effie May Gregory McDaniel, Nathan and Jane Potter Sparks, Dan Myers, Preacher Andy Gregory, John Oliver & more. We hear about the Great Warriors Path and herding cattle up on Spence Field. We start on Laurel Creek Road and end at the Oliver Cabin. We visit Anthony Creek, Abrams Creek, & the site of the schoolhouse and country store and home sites on Sparks Lane. Gladys Oliver Burns tells what it was like to grow up in a railroad car. Larry Sparks tells the story of the murder of Tom Sparks on Spence Field - and more!
